Description | India has rapidly expanded its solar power generation capacity, becoming the world's most competitive solar market by generation costs. However, the country faces significant bottlenecks in building the necessary power transmission networks and energy storage systems to effectively deliver and store this clean electricity. As of June 2025, over 50GW of renewable energy capacity was stranded due to insufficient transmission infrastructure. Efforts are underway to co-locate batteries with solar developments to overcome grid constraints and capture surplus power during peak solar hours. Investment in solar power generation reached $20 billion in 2025, with a focus shifting towards infrastructure and market design to enable reliable power delivery. |
