Description

Description

This project will support Indigenous-led biodiversity conservation by strengthening territorial governance and enabling systems, while expanding nature-based productive inclusion and economic opportunities in Indigenous territories. It will help Indigenous Peoples plan, finance, and implement conservation, restoration, sustainable use, and biodiversity-compatible livelihood activities in ways that strengthen economic autonomy while safeguarding ecosystems and cultural values. The project is structured around two mutually reinforcing components: (i) Indigenous territorial governance and enabling systems, covering territorial planning, Indigenous knowledge, institutional strengthening, and Indigenous-led monitoring and information systems; and (ii) nature-based productive inclusion and economic opportunities, supporting biodiversity-compatible productive initiatives, value chains, and market linkages aligned with territorial priorities and conservation objectives. The proposal is being co-developed with Indigenous organizations, led by the Organizacion de los Pueblos Indigenas de la Amazonia Colombiana (OPIAC) and the Organizacion Nacional Indigena de Colombia (ONIC), in close coordination with the Ministry of Environment, to ensure that the project reflects Indigenous priorities, territorial realities, and governance systems from the outset.
