Description
Description | Narrative and storytelling are one of the most significant tools by which a community is formed. As individuals, we need to reconcile our contradictions in ourselves, often by means of telling us a story that describes and sheds light on them. Communities comprise a sum of diverse individuals, and often narratives are useful to elucidate this diversity and help us to understand each other and to learn to coexist. INDIVIDUALS AND COMMUNITIES: BUILDING EUROPE (ICBE) is a project consisting of the translation and publication of 11 literary works by contemporary European authors from across 7 different countries throughout two years. These works deal with the issues of contradictions within the individual self, and the challenge of the relation between the individual and the community. Our aim is to make available to a Spanish-speaking readership (both in Spain and Latin America) a series of high-quality literary works that provide insight on these topics, and thus deliver a tool for a better understanding of each other and an enhanced cohabitation in the continuous process of building the community of Europeans. The works comprised in this project include novels, short-story collections and poetry books, mainly written and translated by women, and of which a majority were written in European lesser used languages. The selected authors are either well-established authors in their home countries however not well-enough known in the Spanish world yet, or younger, emerging authors that are meant to become European classic authors in the future, recognized with international literary prizes such as Premio Strega, Premio Campiello, Nordic Council Literature Prize or European Union Prize for Literature, among others. ICBE is focused on reaching new audiences by means of publishing high-quality translations, making them easily available to readers across Spain and Latin America, and providing them high visibility through an extensive and specific promotion plan. |
