The aim of the FC thematic project is to promote the expansion of the use of solar energy in India. In this regard, the Federal Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the German-Indian Solar Partnership during the German-Indian Cabinet consultations in October 2015. The Memorandum of Understanding is divided into three phases and has a total volume of around 1 billion euros. The current German-Indian Solar Partnership III project builds on the Solar Partnerships I and II of the same name and contributes to the further expansion of solar energy generation capacities in conjunction with the expansion of the supply network, in particular the Green Energy Corridors, and to support the reform efforts of the electricity distribution companies. The aim of the FC thematic project is to support the expansion and restructuring of the energy supply in India towards greater use of solar energy and thus make a contribution to the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and, accordingly, to global climate protection (FC module goal). The FC module therefore makes a direct contribution to the development cooperation programme objective of promoting a broad-based, technically and economically efficient, and socially and ecologically sustainable energy supply. The thematic project will finance investments with total costs of around EUR 285 million. Two FC development loans totalling EUR 200 million will be made available for this purpose. Component 1, worth EUR 130 million, will be implemented by Mahagenco, the state energy provider in Maharashtra. Component 2, worth EUR 70 million, will be implemented as a credit line by the State Bank of India.
