The project involves the design, build, finance, operation and maintenance (DBFOM) of Indode Intermodal Rail Terminal and Dry Port, andThe Logistics Centre is located in central Ethiopia, approximately 26 km southeast of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.The project will be established along the Addis Ababa–Djibouti railway corridor, a key trade route designed to connect landlocked Ethiopia to the Djibouti Port and the broader international shipping lanes of the Red Sea. This railway is Africa’s first modern, cross-border, standard-gauge, electrified line, spanning a total of 756 km—656 km within Ethiopia and 100 km in Djibouti. It has significantly improved freight and passenger transport by reducing travel time between Addis Ababa and Djibouti. Given its distance from the sea and the efficiency of rail compared to road transport, the project is well-positioned to capitalize on the capacity and cost advantages offered by train services. This makes intermodal transport a practical and competitive alternative, with the potential to lower both the cost and duration of moving import and export goods along the corridor over time. The Government plans to upgrade the current Indode Freight Station into a fully integrated intermodal rail terminal, dry port, and logistics hub. As the site already contains some infrastructure, the project is classified as a brownfield development.The Indode Dry Port component will focus on intermodal transport, whereas the Indode Logistic Centre will offer space for warehouses, logistics operators and large-scale logistics. The scope of activities that are envisioned in the Indode Logistic Centre is designed to complement the Indode Dry Port activities, to optimise the current locations and both developments.
