Indonesia Supporting Tuberculosis Elimination Project

The proposed “Indonesia-Supporting Tuberculosis Elimination Project” (I-STEP) is an Investment Project Financing (IPF), to be financed by IBRD loan in the amount of US $211 million. The project will support Indonesia to rapidly reduce the transmission of TB by systematically screening a large proportion of adults annually to find asymptomatic TB cases in the community and to diagnose at least 90 percent of the symptomatic TB cases accessing care in the health facilities. At least 95percentof all cases identified will start TB treatment and 90 percent of those started on treatment will be successfully treated. This two-prong approach will reduce TB transmission from both symptomatic and asymptomatic TB cases with expected impact of rapid reduction in TB prevalence and incidence. The project will include the four components outlined below, with tentative funding to be refined during project preparation. The first component starts with the introduction of new technologies in Primary Health Care (PHC). The second component focusses on ensuring the delivery of TB mass screening and treatment completion and the preparation to introduce the new TB vaccine. The third component provides supporting pillars for cross cutting issues including information system strengthening, public communication, research and financing. The fourth component will provide support to the implementation through a strong project management and monitoring.
