Description | The Sixth Southern Italy Development Project for Italy will assist in financing a program for the economic development of southern Italy. It will entail three specific projects: two industrial (SINCAT and CELENE) and one power (MERCURE). The first project is SINCAT. It will develop an integrated chemical manufacturing complex at Priolo, Sicily, based on the local availability of raw materials. Some of the SINCAT project components are: 1) installation of an integrated complex fertilizer plant; 2) opening of a mine for mineral extraction; and 3) installing a steam cracking plant. The second project is CELENE. It will construct a plant at Priolo also for the production and processing of polyethylene and ethylene oxide and derivatives. The third and final project is MERCURE. It will construct a thermal power plant to meet the increasing demands for power. Some of its components are procurement of turbo generator units, boilers, and a cooling system and construction of an outdoor substation with phase three transformers. These three projects will help to foster the economic development of southern Italy by increasing industry growth and power production. |
