Ineos Blue Methanol Plant at Texas City

Ineos has partnered with Sandpiper Chemicals to build a blue methanol plant capable of producing 1.1 million tonnes per year at its Texas City site on the US Gulf Coast. Ineos will be a shareholder and anchor customer, pledging to use up to 300,000 tonnes a year of low-carbon methanol for acetic acid production. The project is estimated to cost around $1.7 billion, with a final investment decision scheduled for 2027 and first production expected in 2030. Sandpiper has engaged Danish technology firm Topsoe to supply carbon capture equipment aiming to capture and store 97% of emissions from natural gas-based methanol production.
