Ineos Blue Methanol Plant at Texas City

Ineos has partnered with Houston-based Sandpiper Chemicals to build a blue methanol plant capable of producing 1.1 million tonnes of methanol per year at its Texas City site on the US Gulf Coast. The British multinational will become a shareholder and anchor customer for Sandpiper, pledging to use up to 300,000 tonnes a year of low-carbon methanol for acetic acid production. The project is estimated to cost around $1.7 billion, with a final investment decision scheduled for next year and first production expected in 2030. Sandpiper has engaged Danish technology firm Topsoe to supply carbon capture equipment aiming to capture and store 97% of emissions from natural gas-based methanol production.
