Fortescue's project to develop a zero emissions electric Infinity Train for its Pilbara mines involves sending fully laden trains downhill to the port charging batteries with regenerative power and returning empty trains uphill with battery power. The project faced technical and economic challenges, leading to reassessment and staff reductions. Fortescue remains committed to the Real Zero target and is exploring multiple decarbonisation pathways including battery and green ammonia options.
