Description
Description | InfoMigrants is an online information portal launched in 2017 by 3 European media – France Médias Monde, Deutsche Welle and ANSA – with the support of the European Union. It aims at providing reliable, balanced and tailor-made information on migration and to migrants in third countries of origin and transit along the key migratory routes towards the European Union - in particular, the Eastern, Central and Western Mediterranean and Atlantic routes, the Western Balkans route, the Silk route, and the European Union’s eastern border. InfoMigrants therefore produces contents in 6 languages (French, English, Arabic, Dari, Pashto, and Bengali) and distributes them on its website (https://www.infomigrants.net/fr/) and on the main social media used by migrants (Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, TikTok and Whatsapp). By disseminating reliable information on social media used by (potential) migrants and smugglers, InfoMigrants provides a direct alternative and contradictory narrative to the widespread misinformation provided by migrants’ smugglers and enables (potential) migrants to make better-informed decisions based on objective information rather than rumors, myths and false information. This new project phase draws on the experiences gained over the past 7 years of implementation of InfoMigrants, and feedback gathered from the editorial teams, the external evaluators and the European Commission. Indeed, InfoMigrants has continuously adapted its editorial and digital strategies to match with the information uses and interests of its target groups. In doing so, it has established itself as a valuable and trusted tool in raising awarenesse and informing (potential) migrants about the dangers and realities of migration. In 2025-2026, InfoMigrants plans to reach an average of 7 million contacts every week. InfoMigrants is also widely used as a tool by many institutions, media, non governmental organisations and local civil society organisations working with migrants which used it to keep abreast of migration news, organise training or support their messages with trusted and reliable information. |
