The Improvement of Five Inland Ports Projects for East Pakistan will provide credit to assist in the financing of improvements to the river ports at Dacca, Narayanganj, Khulnz,Chandpur, and Barisal. The project will: a) modernize facilities by providing proper berthing, cargo handling, storage, and passenger terminals; and b) eliminate traffic congestion by providing jetties, anchorages, and mooring buoys. The project will improve five major inland ports, including the largest commercial centers of the country. It will lower the costs of transporting jute, the country's largest export item.
