Description | The inland rail project originally planned to run 1,700km from Melbourne to a port near Brisbane has been drastically scaled back to only connect Beveridge in Victoria to Parkes in central west NSW. The project aims to deliver a freight link allowing double-stacked freight trains to run west to Perth and east to Newcastle from Beveridge. The government has reallocated $1.75bn of the project's funding to other national rail upgrades. The project cost has increased significantly, with completion now expected by late 2027 for the scaled-down section. |
