Inland Waters Project

The objective of the Inland Waters Project of Croatia is to improve water supply services, wastewater services, and flood protection measures in municipalities selected from the inland part of Croatia. The project will have two components: (1) Technical Assistance (TA) through which assistance will be provided to Hrvatske Vode (HV) and participating utilities to implement the project. The Technical Assistance component will have the following three components: a) EU Accession Support, through which HV as a national entity will be involved in implementation of activities in the country related to meeting EU directives and absorption of EU funds. To this end, it will implement the Water Management Strategy that involves strengthening of institutions and preparing projects that will be eligible to receive funds from the EU or other sources; b) Project Implementation Support which will be implemented by HV; and c) Institutional Strengthening of Utilities which will be used by the utilities that will benefit from the project. (2) Investments to improve coverage and service of water and wastewater services in selected municipalities and flood protection measures. The Investment component will have the following two sub-components: a) Utility Investments through which there will be three sets of proposed utility investments. These investments will be undertaken by the local utilities, with assistance from HV; and b) Flood Protection which will support the implementation of flood protection measures in the Central Posavina area in the Sava river basin. The investments will increase flood management coverage through the rehabilitation and expansion o f dikes, canals, and channels.
