Description

Description

"The objectives and purpose of the proposal presented by the Jean Monnet Chair ""IMMIGRATION AND EUROPEAN MARITIME SECURITY IN WESTERN MEDITERRANEAN"" (IESMED) are reflected in the organization and delivery of an annual bilingual Spanish and English course of 90 hours to be held at the Faculty of Law of the University of Cadiz, on the Jerez Campus, on a semi-face-to-face basis. For the non-face-to-face activities, the University of Cadiz has the digital platform Moodle, and through the Virtual Campus there is already extensive experience in on-line activities and the tutoring and elaboration of practical cases and exercises with the students. This will allow greater participation of civil society in the course. In the sessions, which will include undergraduate, postgraduate and master's degree students who can begin their research training in this area, various security-related issues will be analyzed and debated, in both their external and internal aspects and affecting the Euro-Mediterranean area, with a special focus on the phenomenon of migration by sea. On the other hand, it is necessary to highlight the importance of the geostrategic situation of the University of Cadiz, in the south of Europe, with a maritime border with Africa and bordering the Mediterranean Sea. This can also be seen in the excellent academic relations that we have with the Abdelmalek Essaadi University of Tanger-Tetouan (Morocco), so that the teaching activity would also include a 20-hour Spanish and French course at this Moroccan University on the process of European integration and maritime security. Finally, as a complement to the teaching activity, monthly seminars on maritime security and immigration issues, the creation of a website, the publication of a book with the main contributions of the Chair, as well as research stays in Centres of recognized prestige are foreseen."
