Staff at nursing homes in Denmark and Sweden will receive virtual skills development in order to prevent infection and spread in infectious diseases. Elderly care in the public sector is under pressure to carry out its mission at the same time as the older population is growing and there is a shortage of care and healthcare professionals. Municipalities already testify that it is difficult to recruit staff. If the level of service is to be maintained and municipalities are to be able to continue delivering “core well-being”, it must be for innovative work to ensure that there is the necessary workforce with the right skills. The COVID 19 pandemic hit care workers hard. Many became ill, resulting in an unsustainable understaffing at the nursing homes. Prevention of infection and transmission is therefore a political priority. The InnoCompTec project will help existing staff want to work, increase motivation and ensure well-being, reduce sick leave and not least make it attractive to recruit new workforce for elderly care. In concrete terms, the project will ensure that elderly care professionals gain skills development by using simulation techniques virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). Physical Living Labs will be established in the two municipalities that are part of the project, Vesthimmerland in Denmark and Mölndal in Sweden. Together with selected life science companies, the labs will develop VR and AR to simulate preventive work and situations with the spread of infections, as well as avatar technology to train staff to have digital dialogue with residents and relatives regarding the spread of infection and infection protection. In total, 60 employees and six teachers from Mölndal and Vesthimmerland will participate in concrete design processes. In addition to skills development, the six Swedish and Danish life science companies that participate have the opportunity to speed up the development of their products. The activities of the project will also be compiled in a handbook on how best to implement project results in practice.
