Digitalisation opens up unprecedented industrial opportunities for various industries, such as manufacturing, tourism, creative industries, health care and education. Digitalisation is the basis for making documents available, for example within a company, between clusters of companies or free for all. Digitalisation is well in line with so-called open innovation. By taking advantage of this opportunity, a more adaptable scaling of the company’s business can be done, thus generating new types of value-creating products and services. Industrial Internet (Industrial Internet) is a concept that has gained a change in importance over time and now includes strategies for implementing digitalisation in an improved way, i.e. in a way that supports people’s various activities at work as well as in life. Simply put, Industrial Internet, in addition to the application and use of modern technologies, also promotes the ability to develop smart and sustainable business models for growth. In this way, the consequence of the broadened concept is an attitude change compared to traditional engineering, where the focus is on validating a field of knowledge rather than strengthening innovation capacity through mapping and inclusion of different competencies. The present project proposal Innovation & Industrial Internet is based on a proactive forward-looking application of research and development where the aim is to identify crucial factors for innovation and the use of modern technology to create a creative test environment for skills enhancement for SMEs in the region. The test environment is expected to contribute to the goal of strengthening companies’ commercialisation capacity by offering support for learning and knowledge sharing for radical and incremental innovation work.
