Description

Description

Installation of a canopy over the front entrance of the Haliburton Family Medical Centre, to provide shelter from the elements for users of the Municipality of Dysart’s Special Transit Service for people with mobility issues, and improve accessibility, safety and ease of transit operations. The Municipality of Dysart’s Special Transit Service (DYMO Bus) is the only form of public transit in the area. It is a vital service for residents with mobility issues, and frequently makes stops at the Haliburton Family Medical Centre. Currently, there is no shelter from the elements at this stop for transit users. Roof ice has been a safety issue at this stop in the past. A de-icing cable was installed to mitigate this problem, but it has not been effective. It has also been a challenge to keep the pavement at the stop clear of snow and ice during the medical centre operating hours, and individuals using wheelchairs and walkers have had difficulties navigating the area. The installation of a canopy would prevent snow and ice from accumulating, thus improving the accessibility and safety for transit users living with mobility issues.
