Description
Description | The Institut nordique du Québec (INQ) will benefit from a new main building, on the campus of Laval University, bringing together Quebec and Canadian expertise in northern and arctic sciences in support of the sustainable development of northern Quebec and the Canadian Arctic. A first phase of this project includes administrative and office spaces, specialized laboratories at the cutting edge of technology, research mission preparation workshops, teaching rooms, library spaces, meeting/conference rooms and food services that are not part of the eligible costs of this Invest in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) project and are subject to federal funding under the New Building Canada Fund - Provincial-Territorial Infrastructure Component - National and Regional Projects (NBCF-PTIC-NRP). A second phase of this project for which funding is requested under the ICIP consists of developing the following public community, cultural and recreational spaces: - A multifunctional room, a broadcasting creation room as well as the Milieu Nordique open exhibition space, which will be used in particular to host events and exhibitions to promote Aboriginal peoples’ causes; - The winter Garden; - An interior garden; - The entrance hall, a lobby and circulation areas (e.g., corridors, stairs and elevators) leading to the aforementioned spaces; and - The exterior landscaping, including green public spaces, rest areas and native artworks. This project will allow the academic community of the Université de Laval, the arctic and northern research community, northern communities including aboriginal peoples and other partners, as well as the entire population of the City of Quebec, to have better access to better quality community, cultural and recreational infrastructures. |
