Description

Description

The Central African Republic (CAR) is one of the poorest countries in the world, not least because of its history of violent takeovers. The education system in particular is suffering from the consequences of the political and military crisis that has been ongoing since 2013, and learning opportunities for children and young people are severely limited. The aim of the transitional aid measure is therefore to increase the resilience of children in the CAR against the risk of dropping out of school, a consequence of the ongoing crisis in the CAR, and also to improve their access to and use of water and sanitation facilities. The recipient and project sponsor of the measure is the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). The project consists of the integrated components 1) improvement of inclusive educational opportunities, 2) improvement of drinking water and sanitation supplies, and 3) measures to prevent and treat malnutrition. The measures include infrastructure and material benefits as well as further training and educational measures. The funding contribution is EUR 16 million and the implementation period is 36 months.
