Integrated Center for Design and Construction (ICDC)

Parnassus Heights Integrated Center for Design and Construction Construction starts late March 2021 Construction of project offices began in late March 2021 in the Millberry Union Garage. This Integrated Center for Design and Construction (ICDC) will be located on a section of the west side of floors P5 and P6 of the Millberry Union Garage, below the Kalmanovitz Library. Construction of the ICDC is scheduled to continue through February 2022. When the offices open in early 2022, the teams managing construction of the new hospital at UCSF Helen Diller Medical Center at Parnassus Heights and the Parnassus Heights Research and Academic Building projects will be housed in the structure. Main access to the facility will be via the garage. An existing doorway on the west side of the garage and an adjacent footpath to 3rd Ave. will be upgraded. A new exit path connecting to the existing Kalmanovitz Library steps that extends down to Irving Street will also be added. Initial activity will be to enclose the openings on the west side of the parking garage for noise mitigation. Exterior work on the west side of the garage will include adding the new stairway and construction at the footpaths leading to both 3rd Ave. and to the library steps. New exterior windows will also be installed. All other ICDC construction will be interior to the parking structure. Construction work hours are 7am -5pm weekdays. Any noisy work will start after 8am. Impacts to Millberry Union Garage Approximately 118 parking spaces will be displaced. Vehicle circulation in the parking garage will not change but may be slower at times. Pedestrians will no longer be able to exit the garage through the west side to 3rd Ave. Access to elevators and other pedestrian circulation in the parking garage will not change. Construction vehicle access will be via the garage entrance from Irving Street. Only small trucks and equipment will enter the garage. All deliveries through the parking garage will be escorted by a safety worker. Staging and Deliveries – Irving Street A staging area for construction of the ICDC will be located on Irving Street east of 3rd Ave. Three parking spaces on Irving St. will be removed for the staging area. The sidewalk adjacent to the staging area will remain open. Construction trucks will not use 3rd Ave. Muni stops on Irving St. will not be impacted.
