Integrated education and child protection project in Eastern Sudan and Darfur

The aim of the project is to provide particularly vulnerable children and young people in eastern Sudan (Kassala, Red Sea and Gedaref regions) with improved access to integrated basic services such as education, WASH and child protection. The project sponsor and implementation partner is UNICEF. The project consists of four components: 1) Promotion of school and extracurricular educational opportunities, including through the establishment of alternative learning centers and the promotion of various educational initiatives; 2) Measures to protect vulnerable children and children on the run by setting up child protection centers (one-stop centers) and training and awareness campaigns for teachers; 3) Improvement of water and sanitation supplies by building drinking water supply systems and sanitation facilities supported by hygiene education in the communities; 4) Provision of basic health services for children and pregnant women. A total of 300,000 people are expected to benefit from the measures. The German financial contribution is EUR 30 million over a period of 48 months.
