Description
Description | The follow-up phase of the Integrated Education and Child Protection project in Eastern Sudan has the same project objective as the original project to improve access to integrated basic services such as education, WASH and child protection for particularly vulnerable children and young people. In the project region, the core problems of extreme poverty and inadequate provision of basic infrastructure and services have been exacerbated by the ongoing fighting and the resulting internal displacement. The provision of care for internally displaced people places additional strain on the host communities in the areas of education, child protection and water and sanitation. The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is providing 20,600,000 euros for two years to support, among other things, e-learning concepts, initial psychosocial care for children and young people and the provision of drinking water and sanitation in 85 so-called Makannas. The Makannas project location concept includes integrated packages of measures that are implemented in schools and IDP camps. Due to its flexibility and adaptability, it is particularly suitable for volatile and fragile contexts such as Eastern Sudan. The project reaches up to 220,000 beneficiaries, including children, young people and their families, in selected districts of the two federal states of Northern State and River Nile. As with the original project, the project's area of operation is eastern Sudan, but with an expansion to the reception regions for internally displaced persons in the north/northeast. |
