Description

Description

The project aims to contribute to high-quality basic education and to strengthening resilience. The intervention area is particularly disadvantaged communities in the north-eastern states of Adamawa, Yobe and Borno, which are marked by civil war and state collapse. The direct target group in the communities includes around 1 million girls and boys, internally displaced persons and children affected by the conflict who have so far had no access to education. In addition, parents, community members and staff in the education sector will also benefit from the measures. The main measures include the following areas: (i) equipping schools - in particular rehabilitation of sanitation facilities (WASH) - and providing teaching materials, (ii) improved access to formal and informal education for children, (iii) training of teaching staff and school authorities, (iv) capacity building of parents to increase their children's development opportunities and (v) strengthening the resilience of communities and actors in the education sector at local and regional level through targeted capacity building measures (in the area of disaster risk reduction). This holistic approach aims to improve access to education and learning opportunities in safe environments for school-age children, particularly girls, internally displaced people and children with no previous education, and to strengthen the resilience of intervention communities.
