Description
Description | The project pursues a multi-sectoral approach to promoting resilience and strengthening social cohesion in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Measures are implemented to improve access to basic social services and to secure the livelihood of the population, institutions and community-based structures are strengthened and social cohesion between population groups and state institutions is strengthened. Through employment-intensive measures, the target group also helps to create or rehabilitate production-relevant infrastructure. At the same time, this creates short-term income that helps to improve living conditions. The target group includes vulnerable groups such as children, young people, women, internally displaced persons, returnees and the population of the host communities (including small farmers) who are affected by food and nutritional insecurity and are particularly vulnerable to external shocks. In total, around 157,000 people are directly supported by the project. The recipients and project sponsors are UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund) and WFP (World Food Programme), which are implementing the project, which is designed as an integrated programme, on the basis of a common impact matrix and in close coordination. The project has a total duration of 36 months and is financed to the tune of up to EUR 40 million from the BMZ's transitional aid budget. It is being implemented in selected communities in the north-eastern states of Nigeria, Borno and Yobe, and their districts of Shani and Bade, which are marked by civil war and state collapse. In this respect, the project is embedded in the strategies and approaches to stabilisation and pacification anchored in the Lake Chad Basin region. |
