Due to the long-standing conflict situation and the ongoing economic crisis, a large part of the population in Sudan, and especially in the Darfur region, faces acute obstacles to accessing basic services, especially in the areas of nutrition, health and education. Due to the persistently fragile situation, the population is also particularly vulnerable to the consequences of ongoing and renewed violent conflicts, natural disasters and similar external shocks. Many households have no means to respond to such situations and to adapt and secure their livelihoods accordingly. In addition, the conflict dynamics in Darfur have been further exacerbated in the past by the lack of inclusive, transparent and accountable state structures and processes. This loss of trust has permanently damaged the social cohesion of society. Key needs therefore lie in strengthening appropriate resilience mechanisms and measures to strengthen social cohesion. The aim of the project is therefore to strengthen the resilience and social cohesion of vulnerable population groups in North, Central and South Darfur through better access to integrated basic services (especially education, health and food security) and to promote integrative and participatory government processes. The project envisages needs-based measures in the intervention areas of food security, basic services, promotion of community-based structures and strengthening social cohesion. In addition, measures for knowledge generation and impact evaluation will be implemented. In total, around 300,000 direct and around 2,400,000 indirect beneficiaries in the project regions of North, South and Central Darfur are expected to benefit from the project.
