Integrated Water Supply and Sanitation Project

The Integrated Water Supply and Sanitation Project for Niassa and Nampula Provinces is designed around the demand for improved access to water supply and sanitation facilities. It comprises mobilising the people in the rural areas of the Provinces of Niassa & Nampula in Mozambique to take up the responsibility of developing their own water supply and sanitation services. The project should assist to partially fulfil the demand of the beneficiaries for water supply and sanitation facilities. The main construction activities of this project should benefit an estimated 282,500 people in Niassa Province and an estimated 545,500 in Nampula Province. The Environmental Health Education activities should benefit a much larger proportion of the total population of the two provinces as the campaigns should cover the whole of the two provinces. The project comprises eight main components, namely: (I) Institutional development and capacity building; (II) Environmental health education; (III) Construction of water supply and sanitation systems; (IV) Support for a commercial network for spare-parts of hand pumps; (V) Support for monitoring and water conservation; (VI) Monitoring and Evaluation, and Audit; (VII) Support for improved system management, studies, designs, tender documents preparation for four provincial centres; and (VIII) Project Management and Institutional support.
