Description | The project involves the integration of Chennai's Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) with the metro network operated by Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL). The complete transfer of operations to CMRL is scheduled by July 2027. The project includes asset transfer, infrastructure upgrades, organisational restructuring, modernisation of 18 existing stations, and improvements in surrounding areas. New rolling stock orders, signal system upgrades, and improved interchanges with metro corridors are planned. The Velachery-St Thomas Mount extension, a 500m link connecting metro and suburban systems, is under construction with expected completion by December. |
