Integration of the Military Mobility requirements in the Latvian part of the Rail Baltica Project (Part1)

Rail Baltica is a major missing cross-border link on the North Sea–Baltic TEN-T Core Network Corridor. Thanks to its technical parameters Rail Baltica is suitable for dual civilian-military use with a potential of improving military mobility in the region. The project is a further phase of the Rail Baltica Project improving military mobility and technical parameters to ensure suitability of the infrastructure in Latvia for military use. The project is necessary for Latvia to ensure adherence to military mobility requirements and allow for dual - use cargo logistic operations between two different standard railway infrastructures (1435mm and 1520 mm), as well as between railway – road infrastructure and railway – airport infrastructure. In the project, design activities will be implemented at two strategically important locations in Latvia: (1) combined, dual use Daugava bridge and (2) Salaspils intermodal freight terminal.
