Description
Description | "The EU, a major fishing power and the world's largest single market for fisheries products, is a ""key"" Contracting Party of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tuna (ICCAT). EU fishing fleets (around 8300 vessels) account for about 1/3 of the total catches of all ICCAT managed species. The ICCAT regulation has associated nearly 170 annual data requirements, being all the provisions mandatory to ICCAT Contracting/ Cooperating Parties (CPCs). The Integrated Online Management System (IOMS) is an ICCAT long-term project that aims to integrate and manage online all the information reported to ICCAT. Due to the IOMS modular architecture, the ICCAT annual budget for the IOMS can by complemented with extraordinary contributions of CPCs (e.g.: EU contributions in 2021, 2022, and 2023). The ICCAT Working Group on Online Reporting and Technology (WG ORT) governs the IOMS development (ICCAT Secretariat in-house development). The main objective of this action is to support the IOMS development and the required capacity building to use it. This contribution will facilitate the accomplishment of CPCs reporting obligations in terms of data provisions. The IOMS will lead to timely and transparent provision of more accurate data, which forms the basis of the scientific advice on which ICCAT relies on for the decision-making process. This action will also contribute to the capacity building process aimed to ensure an efficient preparation of the IOMS users. This action will cover the finalization of the integration of the UN/FLUX standard into the IOMS Vessel Manager module until its release into production, and its full maintenance process on the long term. The UN/FLUX integration plays a crucial role on the IOMS allowing an automatic vessel data exchange (EU Member States and other potential end-user adopting this standard). Given the UN/FLUX complexity, the inclusion of an expert (full-stack senior software developer) to the IOMS team, dedicated to the UN/FLUX integration, will facilitate and accelerate all the IOMS development." |
