Description

Description

The project seeks to address the need to raise awareness among the members of the judiciary and lawyers in private practice of the application of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights (EU Charter) – with a focus on Article 47 (the right to an effective remedy and to a fair trial). Seven interactive legal training events of a duration of 1.5 days each will be offered on the application of the EU Charter in Bulgaria, Germany, Greece, Latvia, Portugal, Slovenia, and Spain. Four events are foreseen for the members of the judiciary and three for lawyers in private practice. Some training will be offered in English with simultaneous interpretation into a second seminar language. The main achievements expected are: Training of 245 legal professionals, including 125 judges/prosecutors and 120 lawyers in private practice from all over the European Union on the practical application of the EU Charter; Production of written presentations and case studies, as well as selected audio podcasts which will be available for free online on a dedicated project website; Increased knowledge and understanding of the EU Charter among members of the judiciary and lawyers in private practice; increased ability to implement the provision of Article 47 of the EU Charter; Increased collaboration with colleagues from other EU Member States in the field of fundamental rights. It is expected that raising awareness on procedural rights under the EU Charter will improve legal professionals’ ability to effectively use the relevant provisions of the EU Charter in their daily practice, thus contributing to guaranteeing real access to justice and proper application of EU law and strengthening fundamental rights protection across the EU. The training will boost networking opportunities and cooperation among different European legal professionals and provide a forum for debate to exchange experience and different views on the subject.
