Description

Banco Interfin S.A. (Interfin) is the second largest privately-owned bank in Costa Rica with $508 million in total assets and $43 million in equity as of December 31, 2002. Interfin is 100%-owned by Corporación Interfin S.A. (the group or the company), incorporated in Costa Rica, which serves as a holding company for Interfin and its affiliates. As with IFC’s two previous projects with Interfin, the primary purpose of the project is allow Interfin to provide small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) the much-needed access to long-term credit and to help finance equipment purchases for lease contracts under the group’s leasing affiliate, Arrendadora Interfin (Arrendadora). Additionally, this project will provide subordinated debt financing that will enable the group to grow and strengthen its competitive position as a regional bank.
