INTERMODAL TERMINAL OF MURCIA AND ITS RAIL LINK

The project concerns the preparation of studies and implementation of works necessary to implement of the Intermodal Terminal of Murcia and the rail connection to the Mediterranean TEN-T Corridor. It contributes to the Global Project aiming to develop the Rail-Road Intermodal Terminal and the Logistics Activities Area (LAA) of Murcia. The project is a continuation of the Action CEF-2014-ES-TM-0253-S, coordinated by the Regional Ministry of Development and Infrastructures of the Region of Murcia, that covered the drafting of the studies necessary for the development of the Murcia LAA, the Intermodal Terminal and its rail connection. The specific objectives of the project are the following: - To implement the construction works of the 4 km single line rail connection of the Intermodal Terminal to the Mediterranean Corridor railway line based on the Construction Project drafted within CEF Action 2014-ES-TM-0253-S (Work Package 1). - To draft the Construction Project for the Intermodal Terminal based on the Basic Project elaborated within the CEF Action 2014-ES-TM-0253-S (Work Package 2). - To implement the construction works of the Phase 1 of the Intermodal Terminal that will allow the entry into operation of the terminal. (Work Package 3). - Project management and dissemination (Work Package 4). The project will: - trigger the increase of the demand for intermodal services, - improve the transport connection of the Region of Murcia with the rest of Europe through the Mediterranean Corridor and with the rest of Spain, reaching the Atlantic corridor and the central branch of the Mediterranean corridor - foster the freight modal shift from road to rail and thus contribute to the reduction of the greenhouse emissions associated to road transport.
