Description
Description | The objective of the Jean Monnet Module on International and European Protection of Human Rights (EUHR) is to build awareness, expand knowledge, stimulate conceptual, normative, and critical debates, and generate scientific curiosity for further research on human rights protection policies and mechanisms. The EUHR Module aims to train students from an interdisciplinary perspective for a comprehensive understanding of global and regional human rights protection. the EUHR module is to provide a comprehensive overview of the relevant international instruments and institutions from macro to micro level. It covers the major human rights treaties and institutions, at both global and European levels. The module teaches how these mechanisms are established and how are they applied. The interdisciplinary coverage merges the international relations perspective with the international legal perspective for an ample digest. The module provides an overview of relevant historical developments to present theoretical debates underlying international human rights efforts. While addressing the legal aspects, the module also includes contemporary challenges that the international and European system of protection of human rights is facing today. Lastly, the EUHR module also explores how this legal framework also addresses the specific needs of particular categories of persons, such as children or irregular migrants; or the specific conditions like state of emergency, populism, the Covid-19 pandemic, etc. The EUHR module has three components: i) teaching: undergraduate courses; ii) events: to include fieldwork like study trips to Brussels and Strasbourg, simulations, case study for particular themes, public lectures/discussion panels/roundtable debates; and iii) the EUHR Conversation Series: to provide a platform for practitioners and experts to share insights on human rights protection. |
