Description

Description

MIGA issued a guarantee of €1.26 million ($1.4 million) to the International Dialysis Centers B.V. of the Netherlands for its €2.0 million equity investment in International Dialysis Center Banja Luka of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The guarantee covers a period of seven years and provides coverage against the risk of breach of contract. The project—an expansion of an earlier MIGA-supported health care facility located in Banja Luka—is providing renal dialysis treatment services to the city of Bijeljina in the Republika Srpska region, where kidney disease is endemic. Using state-of-the-art medical equipment, the project is helping to improve life expectancy and the quality of life for dialysis patients. The project supports the World Bank Group's country assistance strategy, which promotes social services, such as high-quality and accessible health care, as a fundamental step in building social sustainability in the medium-term. (For more on this project, see MIGA 2004 Annual Report, Box 1, page 4).
