Objectives - To improve skills of European judges in understanding and applying the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU - To improve skills of European judges in the application of the EU instruments in the field of criminal justice, specifically of Directive 2012/13/EU on the right to information in criminal proceedings; and Directive 2013/48/EU on the right of access to a lawyer in criminal proceedings; - To enhance the network of direct contacts and exchange among judges from the Czech Republic, Croatia, and other EU countries participating in the project, - Strengthen respect for the legal rights of defendants in criminal proceedings, by providing access to the full extent of rights guaranteed by EU law. Activities 1. Develop and deliver 3 training sessions, focused primarily on legal norms mentioned above, and with special language accommodations for non-English speaking judges from Croatia, Czech Republic. 2. Develop instructional materials addressing these norms, and making them available in the relevant program languages (Croatian, Czech, English) to EU judges beyond the immediate circle of physical participants. Type and number of persons benefiting from the project Direct beneficiaries: 90 judges from the Czech Republic, Croatia and other EU countries participating in the training. Indirect beneficiaries: Defendants in criminal cases (benefiting from a more thorough application of EU laws); Judges in Croatia, and the CZ, through the published proceedings and materials from the trainings which are now made available in a more accessible language; other judges across the EU. Expected results - 90 judges will be trained in the application of the above mentioned legal norms. - Materials from the trainings will be made available digitally and disseminated by the project organizers, in program languages. - The participants of the Project will exchange best practices and expertise, and will establish professional contacts with their peers. Type and number of outputs to be produced - Three 2-day judicial trainings organized in Prague - Outcomes and materials from the trainings in electronic version
