Description

Description

"The International Master in Sustainable Cities is an interdisciplinary program between leading universities of the Global North and of the global South that equips master students with a comprehensive understanding of how cities adapt to global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and urbanization. Rooted in the principles of the New Leipzig Charter (2020), the program focuses on creating sustainable urban environments by integrating environmental, social, and economic dimensions. It emphasizes the three pillars of sustainable cities: health, cohesion, and sense of place. The program uses dynamic and creative methods, including flipped classrooms, workshops, and project-based learning. It adopts a block-based structure covering three competencies: Blue Competence focuses on water management, nature-based solutions, and mitigation of natural hazards such as flooding, droughts, and heat islands; Green Competence highlights sustainable land use, urban biodiversity, green infrastructure, and climate change mitigation; Grey Competence examines the built environment, including transportation, infrastructure, and urban design, emphasizing concepts like the ""15-minute city"" and climate-resilient planning. Recognizing the challenges of urban systems worldwide, the program incorporates an international perspective, exploring diverse urban challenges and solutions from cities across the globe. The international MSc in Sustainable Cities aims to prepare a new generation of innovative urban planners and problem-solvers who can address urgent societal challenges and shape resilient, inclusive, and environmentally sustainable cities for the future."
