Description

Description

The International Master of Advanced Methods in Particle Physics (IMAPP) is a joint degree programme offered by the physics departments of the University of Bologna (Italy), the University of Clermont Auvergne (France) and TU Dortmund University (Germany), and it is supported by internationally renowned associated partner institutions. The main focus of the program is on experimental and theoretical particle physics. Methodologically, the program is based on three pillars, each of which is associated with one of the three universities. These are machine learning and statistical data analysis (University of Clermont Auvergne), instrumentation and detector physics (TU Dortmund University) as well as large-scale scientific computing and programming (University of Bologna). Training in these methodological aspects is the second focus of the program. The language of the courses is English and the programme aims at students from all over the world. The foreseen mobility schedule includes study phases at each of the three universities and a stay at one of the universities or an associated partner for an internship during the fourth semester. During the programme, students will participate in up to two international summer schools, excursions to international laboratories in particle physics such as CERN and DESY, and get in touch with other research institutions worldwide in an academic trade fair during the third semester. The courses will be taught by local experts and, in addition, visiting scholars. Successful students will be awarded a joint degree signed by all three universities. They will be equipped with modern technical skills and a strong digital literacy. In combination with the cultural and language dimension, the graduates will have all the necessary skills and abilities that the job market demands and which are also demanded for an academic career.
