ContentThe International Smart Cities Network (ISCN) was initiated by the Federal Ministry of the Interior for Building and Community (BMI) and has been implemented since December 2021 by the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Construction (BMWSB) in order to promote international exchange and knowledge transfer between cities and the national urban development ministries (or ministries responsible for Smart Cities), as well as science and civil society in the field of smart cities. It promotes the integration of digital solutions into citizen-centered urban development processes and facilitates the exchange of good practices and experiences between actors in urban development worldwide.The ISCN currently consists of the core member countries Brazil, Mexico, Peru, India and Germany. These are involved in the network activities at national and municipal level.ObjectiveThrough the ISCN, the partner countries have the opportunity to continuously exchange their expertise and experience in the field of smart cities. The constant "learning from each other" should make it possible to jointly shape the digital transformation of cities in the sense of sustainable and integrated urban development.ApproachThe ISCN enables continuous exchange and joint learning for the proactive design of urban digital transformation in the sense of sustainable, integrated and common good-oriented urban development. In this way, innovative digital and citizen-centric solutions are driven forward that meet the complex challenges and needs of a digital society. Against the background of climate change, the exchange should also contribute to integrating digital solutions in such a way that further efficiencies in the planning and implementation processes enable cities and municipalities, regions and nation states to carry out their processes in this regard more efficiently.
