Description | The project involves rebuilding the Interstate 80 bridges over U.S. 30 and the Des Plaines River in Joliet, Illinois. As part of this effort, lane closures on U.S. 6 will begin on July 15, 2026, to safely build a new pier for a new I-80 bridge structure over U.S. 6 and the Des Plaines River. The overall I-80 project redesigns and rebuilds 16 miles from Ridge Road in Minooka to U.S. 30 in Joliet and New Lenox, including rebuilt and improved interchanges and rehabilitation or replacement of more than 30 bridges. The project is anticipated to be complete by the end of 2028, with landscaping, bridge demolition, and miscellaneous work extending into 2029. |
