Description | The Interstate 81 Viaduct project in Syracuse involves new infrastructure developments including new entrance and exit ramps along I-81 southbound at North Clinton Street and the new Spencer Street bridge with enhanced pedestrian and bicyclist amenities. The project aims to remove the elevated highway to improve connectivity and community integration. It is the largest project undertaken by the State Department of Transportation and is funded by federal and state resources. The City of Syracuse also received a Reconnecting Communities planning grant to improve connectivity between neighborhoods affected by the original I-81 construction. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. |
