Description
Description | The aim of the planned waste management program is to contribute to environmentally friendly, hygienically safe and economically viable waste management in selected regions of Serbia and thus to support the implementation of the national Serbian waste strategy and Serbia's convergence with EU environmental standards. The project will therefore contribute to environmental and resource protection, to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and to improving the living conditions of the local population. In a first phase, the two waste regions of Krusevac and Vranje will be supported, among other things by financing two waste disposal centers including modern landfills and improving waste collection. The borrower is the Republic of Serbia, represented by the Ministry of Finance. The Ministry of Infrastructure will coordinate the project at a central level, analogous to the existing cooperation in the water and wastewater sector. The investments will be implemented by the participating municipalities and their public utility companies. The measures will be financed by a low-interest loan of EUR 22 million and grants totaling EUR 11 million. Costs for the reimbursement of taxes and provision of land are covered by the Serbian partners’ own contribution. |
