Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk Highway Rehabilitation

The Inuvik Tuktoyaktuk Highway (ITH) was constructed in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region on an alluvial deposit with ice-rich continuous permafrost. The ITH opened to the public in November 2017 and has a robust operations and maintenance plan. Since opening, the highway has experienced structural deficiencies and settlement areas caused by permafrost degradation, erosion of embankments and increased ponding of water. This project will enable the department to perform non-routine maintenance activities to maintain the integrity of the highway and improve driver experience. Planned activities on priority areas include raising low profile embankment areas, improving drainage, installation of guardrails and surface materials. 100% of the project will take place in the current ITH Right of Way.
