Description

Description

Invasive alien species, IAS, are one of the greatest threats to biodiversity in our nature. By putting in early action, there is a chance to mitigate the effects that IAS will have on our ecosystems and, ultimately, people and society. Inspect is a collaborative project between Sweden and Finland with the aim of meeting together the challenges of IAS that threaten biodiversity in the Kvarken area. INSPECT’s main objective is to develop action plans to combat and combat the spread of invasive alien species giant balsamin and vresrose. By testing out control methods, information strategies and work organisation in different areas, a solid factual basis is obtained that is analysed together. These results shall form the basis for the development of the action plans for the two focus species. With the help of the action plans, different actors, from authorities to private individuals, will be able to find information on how they can combat species in the most effective way and thus get quick help to get started and act. Through targeted dissemination of information through different channels, public awareness and engagement with IAS shall be increased. The results of the project shall lead to effective control of species also outside the project area. The action plans should also serve as a model for the development of action plans to combat other IASs, both current and future. During the project period, cooperation between countries will continue after the project period, e.g. in the form of an international working group. The aim of the cooperation is to make both countries better equipped to act at an early stage, new IAS threatens our diversity.
