Investment Grant for the Access to Electricity in the Atlantique Province in Benin

The Project has two components: (i) improvement of access in urban and peri-urban areas, including the rehabilitation and extension of distribution networks of urban and peri-urban centers of the municipality of Abomey‐Calavi (West suburbs of Cotonou) and of the Atlantique Province (rehabilitation and extension of medium and low voltage lines, creation of new substations) and a connection programme in this area; and (ii) a rural electrification component to increase electricity access in rural communities of the Atlantique Province. The EU-AITF SE4ALL investment grant will facilitate a significant number of connections (estimated at 34,000) to the grid, connecting about 80 villages. It will finance the costs of the access component for the rural area (estimated at EUR 9m), the connection programme for the urban/peri-urban area (estimated at EUR 6m) as well as the owner’s engineer cost (budget of EUR 5m).
