The aim of this SI project is to create medium to long-term income opportunities for internally displaced persons, returnees and needy residents of affected communities in Iraq. The focus of the SI project is on measures to a) improve employability through vocational training, on-the-job training, job placement, etc.; b) expand operations and companies using grants to SMEs from the Enterprise Development Fund (EDF); c) short-term employment measures (cash for work or support for public works) to create short-term income opportunities; d) renovate basic infrastructure that promotes the economy (electricity, water, access, usable buildings and spaces, etc.) to make it easier for companies to settle and/or expand. At the same time, the ability of the relevant ministries and institutions to better coordinate measures to improve living conditions and employment and to support micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) at the local level is to be strengthened. The project is being implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
