The project involves Suffolk County Council procuring a private sector development partner to jointly develop, finance, build, and operate the proposed Ipswich Heat Network in Suffolk, England, under a long-term joint venture structure. The network is planned to capture low-carbon heat—potentially from sources such as the River Gipping—and distribute it via underground pipe infrastructure to supply public and other buildings in Ipswich with sustainable thermal energy. The scheme is backed in part by funding from the UK Government’s Green Heat Network Fund and is intended to deliver a large-scale, low-carbon district heating system that supports local decarbonisation goals while leveraging private investment and expertise for delivery and long-term operation.
