Description | The Iran–Pakistan gas pipeline, also known as the 'Peace Pipeline', is a long-stalled project intended to transport natural gas from Iran's South Pars field to Pakistan's southern regions, including Gwadar and Nawabshah. Iran has completed its 1,100-kilometre section, but Pakistan's 780-kilometre stretch remains mostly unbuilt due to financial constraints and external pressures. The project has faced delays for nearly three decades, with legal and financial challenges, including penalties owed by Pakistan. In February 2024, Pakistan approved construction of an 80-kilometre segment near the Iranian border, financed through the Gas Infrastructure Development Cess and implemented by Interstate Gas Systems (Private) Limited (ISGS). |
