Description
Description | Iraq has been severely devastated by several wars, political crises and the fight against IS. The current phase includes measures from the Funding Facility for Immediate Stabilization (FFIS) as well as those within the framework of the Iraq Crisis Response and Resilience Programme (ICRRP). Funding is provided by the BMZ Employment Initiative for the Middle East and Turkey. Implementation is carried out by UNDP. The overarching goal of the SI measure is to contribute to the short-term improvement of socio-economic conditions, particularly income conditions, in those communities that were recently liberated from so-called ISIL (FFIS) or that have taken in a substantial number of internally displaced persons or Syrian refugees as a result of the fighting in Iraq and Syria (ICRRP). The aim of the project is to contribute to improving the economic and social living conditions for returnees and internally displaced persons. This is to be achieved primarily by creating short-term and quickly generated as well as long-term employment opportunities and by rehabilitating infrastructure, which is of central importance for the long-term stable socio-economic development of the respective communities. As part of the project, 9,000 apartments in West Mosul, West Anbar and Batnaya are to be rehabilitated by around 900 workers in an employment-intensive manner. Following the first phase of the project, cash-for-work measures are also to be implemented to promote short-term employment. 2,675 people are to be supported through employment measures such as garbage collection and sorting, rubble removal and street cleaning as well as painting, decorating and tidying up. The regional focus of these measures is on Anbar, Ninewa, Kirkuk and Salah al-Din. Other components of the commitment under FFIS include supporting 400 micro-enterprises in Mosul and 1,400 women through financial support, and rehabilitating the Waladi textile factory in West Mosul, which will benefit around 10,300 people. Within the framework of ICRRP, a total of 7,975 people are to benefit (directly and indirectly) from the measures through the creation of 1,450 short-term jobs. The classic cash-for-work activities are to be accompanied by long-term measures in the area of vocational training and support in setting up smaller businesses and shops. |
