Iraq-Syria Crude Oil Pipeline Revival

Iraq and Syria have signed an agreement to revive the long-idle Iraq-Syria crude oil pipeline, which will restore a key energy corridor linking Iraq's oil-producing Kirkuk region with the Syrian Mediterranean port of Baniyas. The project aims to provide Iraq with an alternative oil export route bypassing the Strait of Hormuz. The reconstruction will be undertaken by US energy giant Chevron, with the US State Department calling it a 'priority infrastructure project'. The pipeline is expected to have an initial transport capacity of two million barrels of crude daily once fully rehabilitated.
